5 Islands Marine selects 1 brand – Mercury

An unbeatable range of outboards was the key factor in 5 Islands Marine becoming the latest dealership to choose Mercury as their sole engine supplier.

“This is the major step in what’s been a complete turnaround for this business,” said General Manager, Matt Fenton.

“With Mercury on board we’ve increased sales of engines and boat packages. It’s turned us around financially.”

5 Islands Marine is at Yalla, next to Lake Illawarra in NSW where boating is an ever increasing pastime.

“I started work here three years ago when the new owners took over,” Matt said.

“At that stage we were a one brand operation selling a Japanese product which only has four two-stroke engines, which made no sense at all – we were really limited in what we could offer to our customers.”

That’s when Matt brought Mercury on board as a second supplier.

“Within 12 months 70% of our sales were Mercury because they have such a wide choice for our market – TwoStrokes, FourStrokes and a huge range of options.” he said. “With the support of a premium outboard manufacturer we can now offer some unbeatable deals.

“Mercury have really boosted our business. You know the old saying that engines sell boats; we’ve increase sales of engines and boats.”

That’s why 5 Islands Marine has now decided to formally part ways with its original supplier, and become a sole Mercury dealership.

“We’re not interested in being a supermarket,” Matt said. “We’re specialists in what we do and we’re 100% behind Mercury. We strongly believe in the Mercury product, they build great engines and we’re really happy with their workshop, service and warranty systems.”

The decision has been applauded by John Temple, Mercury’s General Manager for the Australia, New Zealand and Pacific region.
