Timber Boat Festival 2009

Royal Motor Yacht Club, Newport

The Timber Boat Festival held each year at The Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay just gets better every year. The quality of the 65 vessels displayed this year was outstanding. There were a dozen beautifully maintained Halvorsens of various sizes from 7 meter to 17 meters. Yet all unique vessels.

Yachts of all shape and sizes, one 112 years old. Hard chine, round bilge, canoe stern, sloop, ketch, gaffers and motor sailers all looked after by their owners with “tender loving care”.

Motor boats, like licorice all sorts, from small putt putts to 17 meter converted trawlers, launches to steam boats. The 90 year old charter boat “Reliance” oozed old world charm and character, just like its bearded skipper.

The jazz band on “Ocean Brumby” entertained visitors and vessel exhibitors with the iconic jazz numbers we all remember and enjoy.

The marine displays such as the Maritime Model Museum in the forecourt area create additional atmosphere while visitors and members enjoyed the fine food and a wine in Bistro.

With an excellent venue (The RMYC marina), great food and wine, wonderful atmosphere, the backdrop of magnificent Pittwater and beautiful timber boats it is no wonder the 2009 Timber Boat Festival was a huge success.
