Funding boost for Greenwell Point boat ramp

Ports and Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi today announced a $100,000 grant for completion of the Greenwell Point boat ramp.

The grant has been awarded to Shoalhaven City Council under the 2009 NSW Government Better Boating Program.

“This grant is one of 52 given by the Rees Government to encourage the construction and upgrade of boating facilities across the state,” Mr Tripodi said.

“Last year we gave $200,000 to this project and this year, the extra funds will see the competition of this excellent community facility.

“Safe and convenient access to the Shoalhaven waterways will benefit local boating communities and help support business and tourism.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for families to make the most of our state’s magnificent waterways.

NSW Maritime grants are generally offered in a 50:50 funding agreement with local councils or community groups.  Kiama MP Matt Brown welcomed the grant as a boost for the local community.

“The project involves the completion of the redeveloped Greenwell Point boat ramp, pontoon and car/ trailer parking area,” Mr Brown said.

“This is great news for the local community, providing improved facilities for the Shoalhaven area.”

Since the State Government launched the Maritime Infrastructure Program in 1998, it has provided over $19 million in grants supporting more than 400 projects across NSW.

Projects range from dinghy storage racks and boat ramps to jetties, pontoons and vessel sewage pumpout facilities.
