Legacy Marina at Rushcutters Bay gets an upgrade

The NSW Maritime-owned site is an important piece of disability friendly infrastructure which was built for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Ports and Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi has announced NSW Maritime will provide an additional $40,000 towards the upgrade of the Legacy Marina at Rushcutters Bay.
 
This is on top of the $60,000 previously committed to the project.
 
“The NSW Maritime-owned site is an important piece of disability-friendly infrastructure which was built for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games,” Mr Tripodi said.
 
“The marina provides special access to yachts and other vessels for the disabled, and this money will go a long way to providing safe, up-to-date facilities.”
 
The Legacy Marina consists of 10 floating pontoon berths and a hardstand capable of storing 22 boats.
 
Mr Tripodi said the grant will be used by the leaseholders Legacy Marina Corporation (a Sailability NSW /Royal Australian Naval Sailing Association consortium) to upgrade the facilities to a level where ongoing maintenance
can be achieved through revenue generated from fees.
 
“The leaseholders use the facility to promote seamanship and sailing, empowering people with disabilities through water activities.
 
“The marina was built in 1998 for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, after which it was identified as a legacy to the sport of sailing,” Mr Tripodi said.  
 
The development consent for the site stated that after the Games, the marina would be used to advance community access to sailing, in particular for the disabled.
