Fatal Boating incident

A man died today in a boating incident on the Cooks River.

NSW Maritime Operations Manager for Botany Bay/ Port Hacking Graeme Dunlavie said the body of a man was recovered today from the waterway.

Mr Dunlavie said the incident occurred at around noon today upstream of the Endeavour Bridge near the Kyeemagh boat ramp.

He said the 3.8m vessel was found with the engine in gear.

Two NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officers were at the scene along with Police.

It was believed the man was on his own at the time of the incident but a search is underway to confirm there were no other people involved.

Mr Dunlavie said it was important all skippers to take care when boating in small craft.

“People in small craft need to be careful when moving around the boat because to ensure they do not overbalance and fall in the water,” he said.

“It is also recommended that people boating alone wear a lifejacket at all times.”
