Croatia Yacht Rally success for Aussie sailing family

Sandringham (VIC) family, John and Sandy Lindholm and their three children, recently sailed their chartered yacht to victory in Mariner Boating Holidays’ 2009 Croatia Yacht Rally.

Finishing equal first with a crew from Tasmania, the result mattered little as the highlight for the family was the cruise along the amazing Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. Covering 150 miles of flat water in two weeks, the rally itinerary allowed plenty of time for swim stops and exploratory excursions ashore.

The Lindholm’s won their trip to the Croatia Yacht Rally in a raffle conducted during the 2009 Variety Splash – the annual Port Phillip-based boat rally that raises funds for Victoria’s special needs and disadvantaged children.

Entries are already flowing in for the 2010 Variety Splash, which will be held 25-27 February. Participants in the three-day event will travel a round trip from Docklands’ Melbourne Yacht Club Hotel, with nightly stopovers at Sandringham Yacht Club and Royal Geelong Yacht Club.

Modelled on the road-based Variety Bash, the fun-filled on-water version raises over $150,000 for Variety, the children’s charity, each year.
