Stay Safe and Plan Ahead

“Summer is a great time for families to enjoy the waterways,” said Don Jones, General Manager of Marine Queensland. “However, dangerous weather can arise, and preparation is key.”

Trailer Maintenance: A Crucial Step

Now is the perfect time to conduct trailer maintenance checks to avoid breakdowns when moving your boat to safety.

Securing Your Boat and Trailer

Ensure your boat is tightly secured to the trailer and, if possible, anchor both the boat and trailer to fixed objects. For lightweight boats, consider releasing some air from the trailer tires.

Remove and Secure Loose Items

Always remove and secure loose items on your boat to prevent damage during a storm.

Check Your Marina’s Cyclone Contingency Plan

If your boat is in a marina, check whether your marina has a cyclone contingency plan and follow the guidelines in your berthing contract.

Mark and Record Your Equipment

Make sure your boat, trailer, and equipment are marked with your HIN or driver’s license number. Take photos and create an inventory for added security.

Stay Informed About Weather Conditions

For safe boating, always pay attention to the weather forecasts. Check the Bureau of Meteorology’s website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 360 426 for the latest updates.
