Australia’s Buizen Yachts has invested heavily in superyacht expertise and technology for its new 52 Pilot House yacht.

Australian superyacht design companies Peter Lowe Design and Anthony Starr Design were commissioned for the new Buizen 52 project, a team with considerable experience designing and building prominent superyachts around the world.

Engaging superyacht designers for the Buizen 52 project has meant the introduction of technologies and processes such as 3D CAD modelling, infusion hull construction and CNC cutting technology. As a result, the boat’s components are designed and produced to the millimetre.

Retained project designer and fit-out coordinator Anthony Starr said the Buizen 52 was a superyacht in all but scale.

“My background is in superyacht design and construction here in Australia and overseas,” Mr Starr said.

“The last project I was involved with was the interior of a 60m superyacht being built at Lurssen and we have been applying these same methodologies and techniques to the Buizen project.

“Specifically, the level of computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacturing (CAM) is the same as you would find at the leading superyacht builders and interior manufacturers around Europe.

“This allows us to achieve far greater detail in the fit-out and much greater complexity in the design… interiors like this would not really be achievable in the typical production environment and not commonly found in yachts this size.”

Buizen has gone one step further by recruiting a production foreman with international superyacht fit-out experience. Phil McIntyre, also an Australian, has worked in some of Europe’s largest superyacht yards over the past 20 years and has an intimate understanding of the expectation at this level.

“We’re approaching the Buizen 52 build and fit-out exactly as we would a 50+ metre vessel – everything is going together with minute precision and the finish is first class,” Mr McIntyre said.

Buizen Yachts managing director Steve Howe said the marriage of traditional values with the most advanced techniques has been exciting and rewarding to watch unfold.

“The philosophy that Buizen brings to the art of yacht building has been enhanced as a result and we cannot wait to show the new 52 off. She will certainly demand a lot of attention and it might be difficult to hand her over to her new owner!” Howe said.

The Buizen 52 is due for launch in November 2011. Viewings and inspections are welcome at the factory.
