To celebrate the 241st anniversary of Captain Cook’s historic voyage into the Whitsundays and naming the Whitsunday Passage, today the stunning HMB Endeavour replica sailed into the region to the delight of holiday makers and golfers taking in the views from the new Hamilton Island Yacht Club and Golf Club. Also, qualia’s guests were able to enjoy views of the historic voyage.
“Imagine Cook’s face if he could see the beautiful Whitsundays region today,” said Glenn Bourke, CEO of Hamilton Island. “I think he would have been happy to stop by our magnificent Yacht Club and shout a round or two of ciders for the crew in celebration of their successful voyage back in 1770.”
The HMB Endeavour, part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s historic fleet, is on its first ever circumnavigation of Australia which commenced in April. Built as a gift to the Australian people, Endeavour is following in the wake of the earliest European explorers, visiting major and regional ports across Australia
