Last week in the presence of over 200 visitors, including key government and Defence stakeholders, industry suppliers from around Australia, and staff of Steber International, Alan Steber launched the first of his 5 Steber Navy Vessels.

The vessel was floated within a few minutes, and was reversed very professionally out onto the Manning River.

Visitors witnessed the initial speed trials, cornering and handling of the vessel before all being invited to an inspection at a nearby wharf.   Following the ceremony, visitors were invited to tour the modern Steber factory.

The vessel is now undergoing rigorous commissioning trials before crossing the Manning River entrance at Harrington and motoring to Sydney, where it will fulfill important duties as a Navy support vessel.

Representatives from the Defence Dept. and suppliers expressed their delight at the professionalism of Steber International, and in fact were pleased that this first vessel is approx 2 months ahead of the initial schedule, and more importantly delighted with the quality of the finished product and hull performance.   Mr. Steber praised the staff and local suppliers.

Mr. Steber announced at the launching that these 5 vessels have maximum Australian content, including all engineering, fittings and assembly with only the engines and some electronics imported, which are not manufactured in Australia.  Mr. Steber also commented that Stebers look forward to working with the Defence Dept. on future projects.

Standing by on the river in the background, is a newly released model, a Steber 3800 Twin Cabin Cruiser, which will be displayed at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May.
