FERRETTI YACHTS’S NEW FLAGSHIP IS UNVEILED: THE FIRST FERRETTI 960 WAS LAUNCHED IN CATTOLICA

Cattolica, 12th April 2013 Over the last few days Ferretti Group’s Cattolica shipyard and the northern Adriatic coast town’s dock hosted the launch of the first hull of  the Ferretti 960.

The launching ceremony was a highly exciting moment for all residents and, particularly, for the numerous Ferretti Group employees that worked on the design and construction of Ferretti Yachts’s new flagship for months. This new model marks yet another step forward for the Group’s historical brand, which adds a highly prestigious new yacht to its already wide range: this is indeed the largest planing yacht ever built by the Italian brand in its more-than-40-year history.

Over the next few weeks all technical activities – RINA (the Italian Register of Shipping) tests, sea trials, system and equipment tests – will be performed and onboard fitting-out operations will be completed.

Ferretti 960, which will be presented as a world premiere at next Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes, is yet another outstanding result of the cooperation between Studio Zuccon International Project and AYTD – Advanced Yacht Technology & Design, Ferretti Group’s research and naval design centre.

“The launch of this model makes us extremely proud, first and foremost because it marks the debut of a new flagship in the brand’s range” – stated Karin Paggi, Ferretti Yachts and Ferretti Custom Line EMEA Sales Manager. “This yacht has been conceived to meet the needs and wishes of our clients all over the world, who love Ferretti Yachts’s classic-contemporary style, but are also equally attracted by increasingly sporty and slender lines that go hand in hand with an unprecedented comfort, normally found on much larger crafts. On the Ferretti 960 we have indeed achieved truly absolute comfort while confirming the brand’s traditional outstanding performances and reliability.”

Ferretti 960 – which has an overall length of 29.20 metres and a maximum width of 6.7 metres – is characterised by an optimised interior and exterior layout. It is Ferretti Yachts’s first planing recreational craft featuring the master cabin forward on the main deck, and as many as four guest cabins, all equally sized and with equivalent furnishings and fittings, located on the lower deck and brightened by large open view windows in the hull. The layout also includes three crew cabins with reserved access from the galley, a solution normally found on maxi-yachts only. The external profile sets a new trend in the design of large planing hulls: the glazing running along the entire main deck “cuts” the hull from stern to the extreme bow, contributing to a much lighter profile that ensures incredible interior brightness and endows the yacht with a very sporty look.

As regards performances, the new flagship comes in three different sets of MTU engines. The standard version has two 16V 2000 M84 2218 mhp engines allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 27.5 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots. Two optional solutions include two 16V M93 2435 mhp engines or two 16V M94 2638 mhp engines, respectively. In the former version, the maximum speed will be 29 knots, the cruising speed – 25; in the latter, more powerful version, which is the one found on the first yacht just launched, the Ferretti 960 can reach a peak of 31 knots and a cruising speed of 27 knots (preliminary data). Such an outstanding propulsion, as usual, goes hand in hand with the maximum comfort ensured by the Mitsubishi Anti Rolling Gyro system, capable of reducing rolling by over 50%.
