Riviera owner Cherie Barker learnt some new boating skills at R Marine New Zealand’s Ladies Suddenly in Charge boating seminar.

Held in conjunction with Coastguard Northern Region, the Ladies Suddenly in Charge boating seminar was held by women, for women.

Cherie joined 30 other Riviera owners in the Orams Function Lounge in Westhaven for an evening of education and socialising.  The evening began with a theory and practical and boating information followed by safety procedures and boating tips.

Cherie said it was a very relaxed and informative evening.

“I have done my boat masters but that was when we bought our Riviera 4700 Sport Yacht so this evening was a great refresher course for me,” she said.

“They shared some great tips on how to tie onto buoys so that you can easily release the rope if needed.

“They had four different learning events and we rotated around them in groups.  I really enjoyed learning about flares, courtesy at sea, Harbour markings, and how to use the VHF marine radio.

“My girlfriend Trina owns a 3600 Sport Yacht so she came with me to the seminar and it was really neat to be able to learn some new boating skills together and build our confidence on the water.  I look forward to the next one.”
