Marine electronics and navigation specialist, Errol Cain has supervised the installation of marine electronic systems into thousands of Riviera luxury cruisers in his 27 years experience. In this issue, Errol talks about Raymarine’s new Black Box Dragonfly.

Following the successful launch of the popular and award-winning 5.7” Dragonfly, Raymarine have announced the release of the CP100 “black box” version. The CP100 will connect to any current a, c, e or gS series multi-function display from 5.7” to 15.4”.

The CP100 will be a valuable addition to the multi-function display’s depth sounder capability. With up to 200m of photo like imagery, finding your favourite fishing terrain will be a breeze.

The CP100 has all the same features as the 5.7” Dragonfly, however with high definition resolution up to 1280 x 800 on a 15.4” display, an underwater structure is now revealed in never before seen detail.

Another useful feature is the ability to view CHIRP DownVision structure imagery and target fish with CHIRP sonar simultaneously.

CHIRP has been used by the military, oceanographers and geologists since the 1950s but it is now available to recreational and sport fishing at an affordable price.  CHIRP sounders can transmit a long pulse and are designed to operate over a broad range of frequencies.

Below is a video link that demonstrates the capability of the CP100.
