The Australian International Marine Export Group’s (AIMEX) members represent Australia’s world renowned innovative businesses in the Australian marine export sector. AIMEX ensures opportunities to do business are provided to all members, to this end, an area of more recent focus is the commercial sector with many members now having products and services applicable to this sector.

Over the past few years it has been important for companies in the marine sector to diversify and look for new markets and for this reason AIMEX has focused on targeting trade shows in the commercial/defence sector.  AIMEX members will have a strong presence at PACIFIC 2013 in Sydney next week and also at Asia Pacific Maritime in Singapore in March 2014.

AIMEX CEO, MaryAnne Edwards commented that AIMEX continues to ensure they are providing adequate benefits to their members and consequently due to demand they are now reviewing the level of profile and opportunities for their members who are focusing on the commercial and defence sector.

“Businesses today must diversify to survive and currently there are many opportunities in the commercial and defence space. Many AIMEX members’ have products and services targeted at this sector and are already doing some good business globally in this market,” Ms Edwards said.

AIMEX members are being recognised for their innovation in the commercial sector with VEEM Limited, P&W Marine (Cameron Engineering) and Stebercraft International all shortlisted for the inaugural Maritime Australia Limited Industry Innovation Award. A total of 18 Australian civil and defence industry innovators have qualified in five categories, with winners to be announced at the 2013 Pacific International Maritime Exposition (PACIFIC 2013).

Stebercraft International are one of Australia’s major luxury boat builders, it is also one of the Pacific’s best fibreglass commercial boat manufacturers. Vessels range from 6m – 21 m LOA. Steber have entered the PACIFIC 2013 innovative awards section with their new Steber Blue Bottle (unmanned surface vessel) which is being launched at PACIFIC 2013.

P&W Marine (Cameron Engineering) are Australia’s largest manufacturer of underwater propulsion systems, supplying and producing all the elements of underwater propulsion systems. They have been shortlisted for their innovative and new cast foil rudder design. The rudders are designed by Naval Architects to meet marine society class and are hollow by design with water tight compartments. The rudder blade assembly is cast in aluminum bronze (NiBrAl) which is lightweight while maintaining superior strength and anti-corrosive properties.

VEEM Limited produce high performance fully CNC machined propellers and shaftline packages. VEEM Limited have been nominated for their VEEM Gyrostabilisers which are powerful, high quality roll stabilisation devices specifically engineered for use on large boats and small ships. The combination of VEEM’s unwavering passion for beautiful design, engineering excellence, and VEEM’s long history of manufacturing and supporting the highest quality marine equipment has resulted in a truly class leading series of products.

PACIFIC 2013 runs from October 7 -9 2013 and the Awards will be announced on the 8th of October at the show.
