Discover the versatility and performance of the Allison Vulcan 189 in our detailed boat review. This hybrid vessel seamlessly blends the best features of a cuddy cabin and a runabout, making it perfect for both fishing enthusiasts and family outings. With options for both two-stroke and four-stroke engines, the Vulcan 189 caters to a variety of boating needs. From its deep vee hull design to its ample storage and stylish looks, this boat is designed for comfort and functionality. Explore why the Vulcan 189 is an excellent choice for diverse boating lifestyles.
Allison’s Vulcan 189 is a successful hybrid between a cuddy cab and a runabout. Whether it’s a low-profile cuddy or a big runabout with bunks under the foredeck, it works! Previous models have gained popularity among offshore fishing enthusiasts, but the latest models cater to both fishing and family use, including social water skiing.
The two-stroke powered boat is set up for family usage and social activities, while the four-stroke model, with 25% less power, is designed for a more relaxed life.
The Vulcan hull features a deep vee design with a motor mounted on a full pod. The keel line has a slim plank, turned-down chines, and twin strakes along each side.
The bow showcases its offshore fisher heritage with a big anchor well, divided bow rail, and ample hatch. A short bowsprit keeps the anchor away from the gelcoat.
The Vulcan’s stylish appearance is enhanced by the rake of the wraparound screen, which extends way aft. The screen’s frame provides good visibility, and the helm ergonomics ensure comfort on long runs.
While the low-profile foredeck’s bunk space may not be ideal for adults, children will find it comfortable. The two-stroke powered boat includes a CD stereo system with speakers in both the cab and cockpit. Storage options are plentiful, with shelves in the cabin, under the bunks, side pockets along the cockpit, and waterproof compartments under each bucket seat.
The passenger seat swivels 180 degrees for skiing observation. Both test boats come with canopies for essential protection, padded cockpit sides, and a rear lounge. Small lidded wells on the transom are useful for thawing bait and cooling drinks. The fuel filler is outboard, and boarding platforms with an optional telescopic ladder on the port side complete the setup.
The Vulcan 189 is versatile, suitable for both fishing and family day boat activities. It adapts well to different boating lifestyles, proving itself as a capable family day boat and social ski boat just as well as a dedicated fishing vessel. The generally higher asking price for four-stroke models reflects their enhanced capabilities.
