Port Lincoln, South Australia: Avid anglers are waiting with baited rods for the start of the 2013 Riviera Port Lincoln Tuna Classic, which begins on April 6.

Schools of bluefin tuna have been spotted earlier than usual, indicating a good Tournament season ahead.

The brain-child of philanthropist and Riviera owner Peter Teakle, the annual Riviera Port Lincoln Tuna Classic has become a much-anticipated event in Australia’s tuna capital, Port Lincoln.

This year there will be 32 trophies valued at $400 each up for grabs in various prize categories including, champion boat 1st and 2nd, champion trailer boat 1st and 2nd, champion male angler 1st and 2nd, champion female angler 1st and 2nd, champion junior angler 1st and 2nd, heaviest southern bluefin tuna, and $500 for the best competition photo.

Fishing days are April 6 from 9am to 6pm, and April 7 from 8am to 3pm.  Sail Past starts at 7.30am at the entrance of Lincoln Cove Marina on Saturday, April 6 and the fishing begins at Memory Cove at 9am.

Entry forms must be received no later than Tuesday, March 5.
