Boat Insurance Seven Days a Week

Gwen Warne is one of those very fortunate, but very rare, people who manages to successfully integrate their leisure activity into their day to day job.

During the week, Gwen is a Senior Underwriter with Nautilus Marine and on weekends she can be seen on Port Phillip Bay sailing a Tasar dinghy with her husband Derick.  And just to prove how serious and competent the team is, Gwen and Derick recently sailed in the World Masters Games on Sydney harbour and came away with Gold medals in their age category.

While husband Derick has been sailing for most of his life, Gwen has come to enjoy sailing relatively recently.

“I had tried sailing in the past and didn’t particularly take to it,” Gwen said.  “But when we arrived in Australia seven years ago I tried it again and loved it.  I’m hooked on sailing our Tasar.”

The Tasar is a lightweight, fibreglass dinghy that delivers high performance sailing.  The class is a one design class that offers exciting racing for husband/wife or parent/child combinations for all levels of ability from weekend club racing through to world championships.

“Our boat is just two years old and we’re very competitive.  With a jib and mainsail the boat is exhilarating and challenging to sail competitively.”

At the World Masters Games, Gwen and Derick sailed in a fleet of 94 Tasars, with 28 of those in their 55 to 65 age category.  Over the four races contested (a further four were cancelled due to the wild wind) Gwen and Derick finished with two firsts, a second and a fifth.  That was enough to win the Gold medal for Australia.

“This is the same regatta that Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark sailed in,” Gwen said.   “And we were quite pleased that even though the prince was not in our category, we were able to beat him!”

At Nautilus Marine, Gwen is held in high regard by management.

‘We’re very proud to have Gwen working for us at Nautilus Marine,” said Mark Crockford, National Marketing Manager of Nautilus Marine.

“When a customer contacts us at Nautilus Marine and they get to speak to another boatie, it makes the interaction all that much easier.  They talk the same language.”

“When Gwen and Derick won their Gold medal at the Masters Games we were delighted for them and their success.  They are now determined to compete in the World Tasar Championships in the UK in 2011, so it will be wonderful to have the Nautilus Marine name on the water in the UK.”

Gwen joined Nautilus Marine when the company was formed, almost five years ago.  In her role of Senior Underwriter, Gwen assists customers with policy information and insurance quotes both over the phone and via email.

“I obviously have a great job being able to help other boaties with their marine insurance,” Gwen said.  “It’s fantastic to be able to sail on weekends and then talk boats through the week while helping out Nautilus Marine customers.”

Husband Derick is also in the marine business, operating DG Marine in Melbourne.  And amongst the services offered by Derrick Warne, he is also a Nautilus Marine insurance agent.

With over 125 years of marine insurance expertise between the senior Nautilus Marine executives, Nautilus Marine is absolutely committed to providing high levels of customer service, backed by local knowledge.
