Boats burn in Sydney’s Pittwater

Fire broke out on a boat at the Newport Anchorage Marina on Beaconsfield Road, Newport on Sydney’s Northern Beaches yesterday afternoon around 2.00pm.

Spreading quickly due to strong north-westerly winds, the blaze burned six boats and caused major damage to several other vessels and jetties.

Fortunately, the affected boats were of the diesel fuel variety, so the fire posed less risk than petrol fuelled vessels.

A boat worker was injured during the incident but the cause of the fire is not yet known.

All boats were privately owned and police are now appealing for witnesses.
