Fishing and Camping Show Opens with political and sporting celebrities

The Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show and National 4×4 Show has opened today with LNP Leader, Lawrence Springborg and retired test cricketer, Matthew Hayden attending the event at the RNA Showgrounds.
 
It is the fifth time the two outdoor shows have been co-located with individuals from across South East Queensland expected to flock to the three day event which showcases the latest in fishing, camping, towing and touring.
 
LNP Leader, Mr Springborg attended today’s event where he outlined his party’s policy on the rezoning of Moreton Bayand with many fisherman turning out to support the politician prior to the Queensland State Election tomorrow.
 
“Queenslanders love getting out on the water, with Queensland now having more than 220,000 registered recreational vessels – the largest number of any state in Australia,” he said.
 
“With boating growing by about 5 per cent a year, there is demand for new and improved boat ramps, pontoons and better navigation channels.
 
“The LNP will balance the environment of Moreton Bay with the rights of recreational fisherman.”
 
Retired Test Cricketer, Matt Hayden was also at the event where he conducted a 30 minute discussion with boaties on the importance of marine safety when out on the Bay.  Hayden also signed autographs for his fans at the Shimano stand at the show.
 
“I myself have been in a slightly embarrassing situation where we flipped over on a bar. But aside from some hurt pride, it was absolute gold in terms of lessons learnt for me,” Hayden said.
 
“I was happy to take the opportunity to attend the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show to say to boaters, please be prepared and think twice about the conditions before you go out on the water. Understand that a lot of the work is done prior to actually getting on the water.”
 
Across at the National 4×4 Show and Outdoors Expo, camping enthusiasts where on hand to experience the ARB Traction and Travel Test Bed in action for the first time in Queensland.   Mark Petersen from the National 4×4 Show and Outdoors Expo said the trailer was extremely popular with event patrons.
 
“The trailer has been created to show four wheel drive enthusiasts how a vehicle reacts in scenarios which are regularly encountered when off the beaten track.  The best thing about it is that drivers get to see how the vehicle behaves both with and without accessories which make the vehicle even safer,” Mr Petersen said.
 
The Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show and National 4×4 Show and Outdoors Expo will continue over the weekend with the show opening at 9am and closing at 6pm on Saturday March 21, 2009.  The following day the event will be open from 9am to 5pm.
 
Tickets for the event are available at the RNA Showgrounds with adults $10, concession card holders $8 and children under 15 free.
