Cabo 40 Express Review

The latest addition to Cabo Yachts Australian model line-up is the magnificent 40 Express which has been designed to appeal to the serious sportsfisherman, or the family boater who isn’t prepared to compromise on quality. A true performer, the 40 Express has a top speed of 36 knots when powered by 700hp C-12 Caterpillar diesels and with its superb hull design you can realistically maintain a 30-knot cruise without breaking your body or the boat.

The Cabo 40 Express features an LOA of 42ft 10in, beam of 15ft 9in and draft of 3ft 5in. It has a displacement of approximately 12,727kg, transom deadrise of 16.5 degrees and carries 2080lt of fuel and 360lt of freshwater. Along with Cabo’s quality engineering including colour-coded and numbered wiring and plumbing, the attention to detail throughout the entire boat is impressive.

The huge 140sq ft cockpit has ample room to swing a 130lb-class game chair and serious anglers will be impressed with standard features such as a transom live well, under-floor fish boxes, outward-opening transom door, padded coamings and much more. There’s also a smart bait-prep centre, which incorporates a sink, rigging board and tackle storage.

The helm deck is intelligently configured with ample seating thanks to an L-shaped lounge that ensures a very social layout. The central helm position offers good vision both fore and aft and means the captain is just a few steps from the cockpit, making single-handed tie-ups a breeze. The helm deck can be raised hydraulically to provide easy engine-room access.

Below deck is a spacious and fully air-conditioned main cabin featuring an L-shaped settee that converts to upper and lower berths. Like all Cabos, the quality of the timberwork and upholstery is truly first class. A fully equipped galley on the port side includes Corian countertops, microwave oven, two-burner hob, fridge/freezer and ample storage. The master stateroom features a large island berth and rod lockers to store 10 outfits.
