Car to be removed from Murray River

A car that was recently dumped in the Murray River near Howlong will be removed from the river in a joint operation, coordinated by NSW Maritime on Saturday morning.

NSW Maritime Regional Manager Murray/ Inland said the retrieval of the car – a maroon Mitsubishi Magna – would begin about 10am.

“A tow truck will be involved in the retrieval, as well as divers and special retrieval equipment,” Mr Kidd said.

“It will be a tricky operation as the car is in about 4.5m to 5m of water just downstream of a large snag in a strong current, close to the NSW bank of the river.

“The vehicle – which is marked by a buoy – is not causing a navigation hazard to boaters and is not a pollution concern.”
