When Dusty McCoy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Brunswick Corporation (Mercury Marine’s parent company) came Down Under recently for the Sydney International Boat Show he also made sure he spoke to our customers – the dealers.

“When he accepted our invitation to come to Sydney, Dusty made it clear he wanted to speak to as many customers as he could during his visit,” said John Temple, Mercury’s General Manager for the Australia, New Zealand and Pacific region.

“He wants to understand what’s happening in the market and how our company can ensure our dealers are successful; that’s one of the reasons he’s a great CEO.”

Before the boat show Dusty visited a number of NSW dealerships – one being Shannon Outboard Service at Hornsby where he met with owner Shannon Stocks.

“I really enjoyed his visit,” Shannon said.

“He asked me what was happening locally and he filled me in on the bigger picture and what Brunswick was doing globally. He talks with passion which is really good,” Shannon said.

“He’s a nice guy, very down to earth.”

Shannon has been with Mercury for the past 21 years and has just spent considerable time and money upgrading his site.

“We’ve been going hard since Easter renovating so the timing was good. Dusty said he was really impressed with what we’ve done.”

After showing Dusty around the site, Shannon took him to nearby Apple Tree Bay at Bobbin Head.

“It’s a pristine boating area with a marina right near the city and Dusty got a buzz out of it,” he said.

After meeting with Mercury dealers, Dusty rounded out his visit by attending the Sydney International Boat Show where he was invited to be the Keynote Speaker at the BIA of NSW Industry Breakfast which was attended by more than 450 key industry players.

Dusty openly discussed industry trends in the US and how Brunswick responded to the dramatic changes in the global marine industry landscape.

“It surprised a few people because he was very candid,” John said.

“The feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive, with people saying it was not only informative but interesting as well.”
