Clipper Motor Yachts has used the opening of the Sydney International Boat Show to announce the development of a new line of luxury sedan cruisers for the Australian boating lifestyle.
The first model in the exciting new Hudson Bay range, a 54, will be launched at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May next year. The boat is already being built at the company’s yard in China.
The 54 will be a followed by a 47 Hudson Bay model later in the year.
The design brief for the Hudson Bay was to combine Clipper’s classic styling in a single-level sports yacht with contemporary lines and, most important, a functional layout for family boating.
“Many companies have produced a sedan style of motor yacht focussed on a ‘day boat’ layout, rendering the boat very one-dimensional,” said Clipper Yachts Australia Managing Director Brett Thurley. “We have combined a layout and features that will focus on families getting away and staying on board while offering a comprehensive range of contemporary features.”
The new Hudson Bay 54 is designed around a single-level family and entertaining area stretching from the large aft cockpit protected by the generous overhang of the hard top through the galley and saloon, forward to a unique open lounge area.
The saloon, with wrap-around windows and sunroof, includes a well-equipped aft galley. Bulkhead windows open to serve the cockpit. The light and airy saloon features a dinette with curved L-shape lounge and two-seat helm with side door opening to walk-around decks.
Two accommodation design options will be available – a three cabin/two bathroom or two cabin/two bathroom. The two-cabin option provides for a large master stateroom amidships and double forward. The companionway runs along the post side. The three-cabin option built around a central companionway offers a double cabin amidships on the port side, twin berth on the starboard side and the master stateroom forward.
There is also a massive space under the cockpit that would suit either a kids’ cabin or a massive storage room.
The tender mounts on a standard hydraulic-lift swim platform for ease of launching and for active families to use while at anchor.
The Hudson Bay will include a design feature on the foredeck adapted from the superyacht industry – a large lounge area and walk-through seating and dining area.
“We believe this new sedan range will offer Australian families the perfect blend of indoor and outdoor living and accommodation for weekends away,” said Thurley. “It combines gorgeous exterior styling that exudes class and timeless elegance with Clipper’s blue water cruising credibility. The hull design shares many features of the proven Cordova range, making it equally comfortable cruising at 12 knots or speeds in excess of 20 knots.”
