Elan launch new 494 Deck Saloon Cruiser

Elan unveiled their most prestigious cruising yacht, Impression 494, in Portoroz on the Adriatic coast of Slovenia in June to the worldwide Elan dealer network and guests.

This elegant lady presents something quite different from the marque, and not surprising as well, with the Elan brand having just been awarded the title of ‘Most innovative Brand 2012’ – Sporting Category, in the prestigious annual German Plus X Award.

The 494 deck saloon bluewater cruiser is a twin rudder design by Rob Humphreys, the international nautical designer and leading proponent of twin rudders for well over a decade, incorporating recently as well, exhaustive tank testing with this concept with his team at HYD (Humphreys Yacht Design) in conjunction with the Oyster Group also in his design portfolio.

Fine lines follow through the new 49 foot deck saloon cruiser with three spreader mast and choice of transoms, twin helms, each with chart plotter and right there at cockpit floor level is dedicated life raft storage.

The cockpit is huge, in fact the biggest in her class, so there is great freedom of movement on deck and an excellent entertaining area.

Sailing a boat that truly performs, even in light winds, and is easy to handle, goes without saying in the Humphreys formula and here it is made easier with functional short – handed cruising and self-taking ability.

The hull design combined with optimal rigging and sail plan makes the yacht stable and safe for offshore passage making, with a very high pointing ability without sacrificing fast downwind performance. Elan’s well known, high-tech 3D vacuum infusion construction consistently ensures endurance and confidence.

Space for comfort, space for adventure; this model does indeed speak volumes. You simply waltz through the space in an effortless manner, combining indoor / outdoor living to give a most generous sized saloon as you step down the companionway, and taking advantage of the yacht’s full beam to present one of the largest, most accommodating bright saloons in its class.

Big opening hatches give bursts of welcoming fresh air and natural light, while on deck you can relax and totally spread out on the spacious sundeck and take a dip from the swim platform.

Entertain under sail, no problem!   Drinks are at the bar – you don’t even have to leave the cockpit with refrigerator and sink right there.

The choice of interior layouts and options is extensive allowing the owner to personalise to a high premium level with colour co-ordinated design packages offering a harmonious flow right through from outside/in to include cushions, cutlery, crockery and tableware.

In all, smart solutions abound, and those handy appliances like microwave, dishwasher, Espresso machine, etc are cleverly and discreetly housed and all there for the choosing.
