Elan’s new performance model, Elan 400 was unveiled to an enthusiastic following at Boot, Düsseldorf. She’s a slick looking 40ft Sports Cruiser and her Polars tell you she is fast.  “The new 400 is the most technically advanced Performance model by Elan to date” highlights designer Rob Humphreys.  For sailors who seek both comfort and luxury with performance, the 400 answers with smart sophistication. What this 40ft offers in her race /cruise design, optimized for short-handed sailing, is an intelligent versatile format giving the sailor his sport of choice on the water. Well established over the years, new Elan twin rudder models backed by Humphreys design team have been well sought after.

The 400 inherits and builds on many great features from the Elan 350, the 2011 European Yacht of the Year, with Humphreys’ twin rudder technology masterfully harnessed for recreational craft. It is the sixth such design for Elan since 2007.  The new model features a plumb bow and prominent chined hull with a long water line of 11.26m in her hull length of 11.95m while the new style integrated GRP toe rail lends to the refined profile. The twin rudder concept allows the 3.87m beam to be carried aft to the transom, giving greater directional control and stability plus a very large working cockpit.

Sailors can choose Club, Regatta or Cruising Rigs, Performance ‘T’ keels for IRC or ORC1 and non-overlapping headsails with retractable bowsprit for codes (asymmetric), and spinnaker pole option for short windward leeward (symmetric). Plus there’s a German mainsheet system and Harken race inspired deck layout to ensure all is to hand plus designated life raft storage in the cockpit sole.

An Impressive blend of comfort, sophistication and clever innovative concepts are displayed in her interior. Flush cabin doors without jambs blending into the bulkheads and absence of cabinetry hardware, create smooth refined lines that enhance the visual interior volume. The model offers 3-cabin layout with 1 or 2 heads and choice of timbers and combinations soft furnishings. Individual tastes are well catered for in the new Elan 400, inside and out, to offer the sailor and family an exceptionally smart streamlined 40ft sailing yacht.
