Central Coast angler Tim Jones achieved a remarkable victory at the 2024 ABT BASS Pro Series Grand Final. Held at Lake St Clair in New South Wales, over the course of three days. Tim led the competition using his 2010 Mercury 150hp Optimax, ultimately securing the championship title and a brand-new Mercury 115hp Pro XS, paired with an Alloycraft bass boat.
“It felt incredible to win,” Tim expressed. “They say when it’s your time, it’s your time, and I really believe everything I did on the water paid off.” On the final day, he caught five fish, finishing with a total weight of 12.075 kg for the tournament. His daily catches included 3.635 kg on day one, 3.180 kg on day two, and 5.260 kg on the last day.
The tournament format allowed anglers to weigh in three fish on the first two days. With the top 15 advancing to the final day, where five fish were weighed to determine the overall winner.
Now with the Pro XS, Tim plans to dedicate the setup for saltwater fishing, allowing him to explore new opportunities, including participating in Bream tournaments. “I’m looking forward to getting on the saltwater more, without the stress of putting my current fibreglass boat in seawater,” he said.
Tim is particularly excited about the performance of his new four-stroke outboard. Citing improvements in fuel economy and overall performance compared to his current two-stroke Optimax. He also intends to upgrade his freshwater boat to a 150hp Pro XS. Ensuring both boats have the best engines for the next season.
In addition to the new outboard, Tim’s prize package included a Minn Kota electric motor. A trailer, a Humminbird fishfinder, a PowerPole, and Green Marine lithium batteries. With his sights set on the upcoming Bass tour. Tim is eager to defend his title and dive into new competitive waters.
