The Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard has won the Marina Industries Association of Australia Boatyard of the Year 2013/14 award. 

The award represents excellence and leadership in the marine industry and establishes a benchmark in the industry and the wider community. The panel of judges, representing a wide section of the marine industry, selected Gold Coast City and Shipyard (GCCM) from three finalists for the national award. 

The prestigious award was presented to GGCM general manager Steve Sammes at Marina13, the industries national conference held in Sydney  (last night 28 June) by the chairman of the Marine Industries Association, Andrew Chapman.

Mr Chapman said that the judging panel was impressed by the service and resources provided by the Coomera-based GCCM, the benefits of a strict environmental compliance program, occupational health and safety standards, staff training and development, as well as strong industry development and participation and a strong commitment to community programs.

The GCCM shipyard manager Ryan Leigh-Smith said “It is a delight to be recognised by our peers, and on behalf of GCCM directors we applaud the MIA on there continued proactive approach for betterment of the industry.  We accept this award after thirteen years of operation and continued commitment to our ever changing commercial environment. We have all been tested over the past three years in saying that we are very excited about the future of the Australian marine industry as a whole.”  

The Marina Industries Association (MIA) is the peak industry body in Australia for the owners, managers and operators of marinas, slipways, boatyards, berthing, mooring and other marine storage facilities and sailing and cruising boating clubs.
