For Andrew Hart of Hook, Line and Sinker, dependability and power are critical, which is why he made the switch to Mercury outboards. The change was driven by a desire for greater power and performance. Andrew and his team, based in Tasmania, visited their local dealer, CJ Marine, to repower their boat, and the results were immediately noticeable.
Andrew was impressed with how much quieter the new Mercury engines were, particularly at mid-range speeds, which was a significant improvement given the boat’s hardtop design that tends to amplify noise. He also praised the engines for their torque, which was particularly evident during testing in rough conditions along the east coast. The additional torque allowed the boat to maintain a plane at slower speeds, something Andrew hadn’t experienced with previous motors.
The decision to switch to Mercury was straightforward for Andrew, given the company’s commitment to product reliability and innovation. He highlighted Mercury’s focus on developing reliable and high-quality products, which instilled confidence in his choice.
The new engine setup includes Dometic electric steering, which offers exceptionally responsive handling and smooth control. Andrew noted that the integration of Mercury’s Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) contributes to a premium driving experience, making the boat a joy to operate.
The upcoming 24th season of Hook, Line and Sinker will showcase the new engine setup, including a comparison between the performance of the twin 175HP Mercury engines and the team’s previous configuration. The season is set to air in December with 13 episodes, featuring the exciting transition and the enhanced performance of the new engines.
