ISAF GRANTS INTERNATIONAL MELGES 32 CLASS ASSOCIATION RECOGNISED STATUS
The International Melges 32 Class Association (IM32CA) is proud to inform it has been awarded ISAF (International Sailing Authority Federation) Recognized Class status. With this esteemed honor, the class can truly validate the strength, fleet growth, popularity and longevity of the Melges 32.
“For the class, this was a logical next step. We are simply thrilled.” said International Melges 32 Class President Jeff Ecklund. “The Melges 32 is a first-class sportboat in the performance, one design category. With this milestone, I’m certain this boat will continue to grow fleets worldwide. Some of the very best sailors in the world are populating this fleet. I’m not just speaking about the ultra-superstars in sailing, I am specifically talking about the amateur, owner/drivers in this class. These guys are really, really good.”
Federico Michetti, president of Melges Europe represented the IM32CA last week in Madrid, Spain at ISAF’s Annual General Meeting. “The experience was fascinating and included working closely with ISAF on every accord. Globally speaking, this is a very exciting time for the Melges 32. The great success of this class in Europe, as well as in North America and Australia not to mention the partnerships it has acquired over a very short period of time is impressive. This is proof that the yachting world really has a unique confidence in this boat.”
On the coattails of this announcement, the IM32CA will present one of the most well-rounded and robust racing schedules ever. More major championships and regattas will be revealed for North America, the European schedule will expand two-fold including a vigorous collection of tune-up meetings, and additional venues throughout Australasia will be named.
