Jessica Watson tells Marine Rescue NSW that all is well for her arrival

Youngest ever global circumnavigator, Jessica Watson, is maintaining contact with Marine Rescue NSW as she approaches Sydney on the final stage of her seven month solo voyage around the world.

Now only 3 days from landfall and an expected welcome crowd of over 50,000 in and around Sydney Harbour on Saturday May 15, Jessica is also using the Marine Rescue NSW Offshore Tracking Service that is available for all vessels cruising the NSW coast.

For cruising skippers who may not be supported with all the technology on Ella’s Pink Lady, Marine Rescue Offshore Tracking provides the skipper and crew with the comforting knowledge that someone responsible is aware of their voyage and in the event of an emergency, help can be provided faster.  

Offshore Tracking is undergoing a major evolution from the ‘hands-on’ manual process that has served the Australian boating community so well for many years. With this year’s operational launch of Marine Rescue NSW, new GPS tracking technology is being built and tested to provide improved automatic tracking.

This is only one of the initiatives now being developed by Marine Rescue NSW, Australia’s new integrated, marine rescue service. Other important projects include construction of a larger, seamless, border-to-border VHF Marine Radio network in NSW, more 24/7 units and expansion of Marine Rescue NSW safe boating education programs.
