Belmont 16ft Sailing Club will be a hive of activity in just over a week when up to 200 crews gather to contest the annual Nautilus Marine NSW Youth Championships.
2012 will see a return of some outstanding sailors as well as newcomers inspired by the sport and by the gold and silver medals recently won in London. With boat names such as Dynamite, Flash and On Fire the youth sailors are signalling loud and clear their intentions.
Crews from all over NSW and Australia have entered and there is sure to be some state-against-state action as reputations are made and defended.
Entries are still coming in and Yachting NSW has waived the late entry fee. Classes include 29er, 420, Bic Techno 293, Flying 11, Flying Ant, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Optimist, Sabot and Open Bic.
The weekend will have something for the families as well as they come along to support their young sailors. With great food and drinks on hand, parents and supporters of the sailors can follow the racing from the race trackers that will be placed on a number of classes each day. Supporters are also encouraged to volunteer to help out. It only takes a minute online on the Youth Championships website.
Results will be posted on the Youth Championships website or you can also follow the action online through facebook and twitter.
Yachting NSW, the sailors and their families are grateful for the support of the industry and the sailing community as Nautilus Marine, Gill Australia, Marine Rescue and Steve Jarvin Motors, to name just a few, line up to ensure that sailing receives the recognition it deserves.
