DESCRIPTION

1996 commercially built Maine Lobster Boat for sale exclusively with DBY Boat Sales.

Calaloo (ex Maine Maid) is a custom 32’ Maine Lobster Boat built as a launch rather than a working boat and for an Australian client for use on Sydney Harbour. She is a Merton Rich design, built by Weldon (Bunny) Leonard at Mount Desert Island Boat Works on Mount Desert Island, Maine, and is known as an MDI 32. Sea trialled in Maine before being shipped to Sydney her interior fitout was done here and includes beautiful Tasmanian Celery Top Pine for the timber trim and gloss Tasmanian Myrtle and Celery Top internal flooring.

She has spent her pampered life firstly on Sydney Harbour, then on Port Stephens, then on the marina at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron at Manly in Queensland, and for the last 5 years has lived on Pittwater.

Powered by a 315hp turbo charged Cummins diesel (a Diamond Series 6BTA5.9M2 to be precise) she will do 17 knots at wide open throttle but her yachty owners are mostly happy to potter around (sipping fuel) at 7.5 – 8 knots. She had dual Racor primary fuel filters and a new propeller fitted in 2018 prior to her trip down the coast to Sydney and has been serviced annually including a full service of the heat exchanger/cooling system in December 2021.

Her decks were repainted in 2019, her hull was resprayed by Beashel’s in August of 2020, and she was given beautiful new cream leather saloon cushions and helm seat not long before that as well as two new 200 Ah house batteries.

She has a bowthruster, laid teak decking in the cockpit, and from her Moreton Bay days she has a 2 burner cockpit gas stove and gas barbecue, and a huge cockpit drinks fridge as well as a Vitrifrigo 133 litre upright fridge freezer and one burner butane stove in the galley. As well she had a fiberglass hardtop fitted over the cockpit and drop down canvas sides to enclose the cockpit at the mooring, but which can also be poled out with fiberglass battens to provide extra shade when needed. There is a heavy duty davit on the stern to lift the 3.1m inflatable, and 15hp Yamaha outboard.

Wired for shorepower there is also a 2000W / 80 Amp Enerdrive inverter / charger (to power the coffee machine and toaster or a microwave oven if desired). A new 115 Amp alternator was fitted to the motor in 2019 and there are 2 x 200 Watt solar panels on the roof so battery charging is never an issue.

In regular use most weekends, and every Christmas and Easter, Calaloo is full of fuel and literally ready to go at a moments notice. She is only for sale now as her owners are ready for another yacht and some more sailing.
