DESCRIPTION

This historic 39 foot gaff rigged cutter, designed by J.W Pickering of Sydney and built by J. Hayes & Sons of Milsons point in 1923, is now for sale with DBY Boat Sales.

She has been lovingly restored to the original plans and specifications including the original sail plan. The finest materials have been used for her new interior, new mast, gaff, boom and bowsprit plus new bronze fittings throughout. The inboard Mercedes 42hp engine has been completely overhauled and new wiring.

This very original boat has no amenities, other than a USB port hidden away. The restoration was completed in 2006 under the custodianship of John Firth Smith. Almost all the original timber work has been retained. Approaching 100 years young, here is your chance to take Windward into her next century.

The carvel planked hull is shallow draft with a copper sheathed timber centreboard. Spotted gum frames, tea tree flooring, Burmese teak coach house, Oregon spars.

Designed and built to race on and around Sydney Harbour, she won the Morna Cup, Revonah Cup and Gascoigne Cup races.

Accommodation is simple with 2 long timber benches and central fold down table. Minimal and purist shaker lounging, 6 opening port light windows for excellent ventilation. Cabin lights and 12v USB outlet. Opening butterfly skylight hatch with sand blasted etch glass panels.

Galley...Picnic basket with bread rolls and a bottle of wine.

Sails...The sail wardrobe consists of main Gaff with 2 reefs, staysail jib and topsail.

Navigation...There are no electronics to go wrong, just a house and engine start battery. Simple, as it used to be.

Fully covered from bow to stern in custom made fawn canvas, she looks even better all covered up or with her dress removed.
