Copernicus is a one owner 2008 Radford 12 now listed exclusively for sale with YOTI Sydney Harbour.
Designed by Graham Radford and built by David Dillon at Shekinah Boat Works in Taree, this yacht is a testament to the ingenuity and skills of Australian yacht design and production. Such a versatile yacht, that can provide great satisfaction and achieve incredibly consistent results racing to Lord Howe or Hobart in one instance and in the next, be a safe, comfortable long distance blue water cruiser.
The design of the Radford 12 with her low centre of gravity, narrow beam, long waterline length and 2.1metre draft provided her owner the perfect mix for both competitive racing and comfortable cruising. In race mode - and experienced hands - Copernicus has achieved everything that her owner set out to do. Just some of her highlights included winning the CYCA Tasman point score in her first year and placing in division in the Gosford to Lord Howe Race. In 2009, she finished second in division in the Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race and in 2011 was runner up in the Lord Howe race.
Internally, her design is simple and practical and despite her reasonably narrow beam, the use of space is impressive with two double quarter berths, a good size V Berth two settee / single saloon berths plus removable pipe cots, fully enclosed head and surprisingly large galley. There is also a comfortable dinette and a well laid out navigation station.
Her standing rigging was replaced in 2019, and she received a new 40hp Volvo diesel engine in 2017 which has just 180 hours of use. She has a good range of sails with two carbon mains, J1, J2, J3 and J4 headsails along with both masthead and fractional symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers and a Code 0.
She has Raymarine GPS and autopilot, Nixa multi displays for wind, speed and depth, both VHF and HF radios and is fitted with AIS.
