DESCRIPTION

1972 Top Hat 25 Mark 1 Abeltje now available exclusively with DBY Boat Sales.

Wow, here’s one for the true Top Hat afficionado, an original Geoff Baker built Mark 1.

And she is literally the complete package, ready for the Summer…

Abeltje (or little Abel, as Abel Tasman was known in Dutch as a child), comes with a Refuge Cove, Pittwater mooring apparatus (with no current waiting list for a Services NSW mooring there), and two dinghies stored in the Reserve on the beach adjacent – one for easy single handed launching, and a larger one for rowing several people out to the boat.

Her owner of 23 years is retiring from sailing and is most keen to see his beloved Abeltje go to a good home.

She has a reliable and very well cared for Bukh 10 hp diesel, serviced just last week by our neighbour and very favourite mechanic, Sandy at Yachtech.

She has a double v- berth forward, an enclosed head to Starboard, a sink and a one burner butane stove to Port ahead of a dinette, and a settee to Starboard, all very tidy and well cared for.

And outside through her companionway (and her original “lockable fibreglass door”) there are two large cockpit lockers.

Her sails include a mainsail, a roller furling genoa, a storm jib and a spinnaker.

Her decks could do with a lick of paint, and her standing rigging is ever so slightly out of date, but it does have an intriguing story. Something over 23 years ago a previous owner rigged her with massively oversized 7 x 19 (flexible) stainless wire standing rigging, wire clamps and turnbuckles, and her owner has seen no reason at all to change it. Whether your insurance company will agree or not is another question.

With over 400 Top Hats launched, and an active owners group and Facebook page, here is your chance to get involved with the class too.

And to quote from her builder’s original brochure:

A thoroughbred offshore Cruising/Racing Yacht, the Top Hat utilizes the highest standards of construction in Fibreglass, to the specifications of the designers Illingworth & Primrose.

The Top Hat's proven performance, ease of handling and amazing interior accommodation make her an ideal yacht for family cruising.
