Man vs Water – Bear Grylls is powered by Suzuki
TV adventurer and survivalist, Bear Grylls (famous from his show on Discovery Channel and SBS in Australia), demands the highest quality equipment, which is why he has chosen a Suzuki powered Ribquest RIB for his own personal use.
After doing his official duties of opening RIBEX 2010, Bear made his way down to the pontoons at Cowes Yacht Haven to see Dave Rose, Managing Director of Ribquest, and collect the keys to his brand new RIB.
The 10m craft has been built to meet Bear’s own specifications and is the biggest that Ribquest have built so far. The boat, named “Shara” after Bear’s wife, has a host of features such as; a self-righting A-frame, the latest electronics from Simrad, shock-mitigating seats from Scott Seats, a large stowage locker beneath the seats ahead of the console and is powered by a twin rig of Suzuki’s 4 litre, V6 300hp outboards.
When it comes to powering big boats, Suzuki’s flagship DF300 offers the ultimate in power, performance and outstanding fuel economy. These award-winning outboards are a showcase of advanced technologies delivering exciting levels of performance from compact, lightweight and fuel-efficient designs. The best also just got better with the DF300A being released which combines the already proven engine with a lean burn fuel control system to deliver 15% better fuel economy.
After taking the boat out for its first trial on the Solent in UK waters, Bear beamed, “Ribquest have done a fantastic job. This boat is so cool. There are still a few finishing touches to add but I was keen to see it at RIBEX so I’d like to thank Dave and his team for their hard work.” He continued, “I am also very grateful to Suzuki for providing the power. They are the most exciting outboards on the market.”
Greg Haines from Haines Suzuki Marine (Australia and New Zealand) commented, “It is great testament to the reputation of Suzuki Marine that a high profile adventurer like Bear Grylls has chosen Suzuki power for his personal boat. Man vs Wild is compelling viewing on TV and anyone who has seen the show knows that Bear would not settle for second best.”
