Marina West haven for South Australia’s largest boats

On March 28 the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia (CYCSA) will begin a new era of
boating with the opening of its Marina West at North Haven by the Governor, offering the
biggest berths in the state to boat enthusiasts.

After a few years of planning, dredging and construction, the $16 million development is now
complete, boasting 73 berths ranging in size from 11 metres to 35 metres, almost double the
size of the Club’s previously largest berth of 18 metres.

CYCSA Executive Officer, Craig Evans, says the new marina responds to the growing
popularity of bigger boats and a lack of berths long enough to safely moor large yachts in South
Australia.

Cruising Yacht Club of SA opens new marina“Initially a lot of interest for the larger berths came from existing Cruising Yacht Club members
who wanted to upgrade their boats, but had nowhere to store them on the water.

“Since then steady sales figures have shown that demand is strong. More than 60 per cent of
berths have sold since dredging commenced in August 2007, and despite the current economic
climate, we are still receiving many enquiries,” said Mr Evans.

“I am very proud that Marina West will be opening in March. The CYCSA has put all its
resources into the project to ensure that everything is of the highest standard and our members
can make the most of their boat ownership and enjoy the lifestyle that comes with boating.

“With the opening of the new marina South Australia will be able to cater for larger visiting
vessels. Marina West has the biggest berths and the largest boat ramp in South Australia, and
the latest in amenities and security features.

“Another unique feature of Marina West is, that members can lease or sell their berths, as the
CYCSA owns not only the freehold of the land, but also of the water. This gives boat owners
much more flexibility and freedom.”

Founded in 1977, the CYCSA has built an enviable reputation over the years, winning
numerous national awards. Today, the Club runs two marinas at North Haven, including Marina
West, as well as a 110-berth marina at Port Vincent.

“In total, CYCSA provides South Australia’s boating enthusiasts with 573 marina and
hardstanding berths across the state. Marina West offers boat owners a unique opportunity to
own a berth at what may very well be one of the last marinas to be built along Adelaide’s
metropolitan foreshore.

“Our North Haven premises cover more than 36 hectares right on the coast, offering members
everything from a clubhouse, bar and restaurant through to workshops, car parking, slipping
areas, and fast access to open water due to the marina’s superb location.

“The CYCSA is committed to delivering the best yachting experience to our members, and the
new Marina West will contribute to the outstanding lifestyle South Australia has to offer,” said Mr
Evans.
