Maritime Alert: North Coast NSW

NSW Maritime is alerting skippers to dangerous conditions off the north coast of NSW from Tweed Heads to Seal Rocks.

Acting Regional Manager Graeme Dunlavie said the forecast was for rising seas and fresh to strong winds over the next few days.

As tropical cyclone Hamish moves south, the wind on the northern NSW coast is expected to increase to more than 30 knots E/SE and seas to 3m in places.

Bar conditions on the north coast are expected to be dangerous.

NSW Maritime advises all skippers to:

•    Check the weather before and during any outing
•    Ensure the boat is suitable for the conditions
•    Carry a lifejacket for every person on board which are compulsory when crossing bars; and
•    If in doubt, don’t go out.

If you are the skipper, you are responsible for the safety of your vessel and all those on board.
