Australia’s premier luxury boat builder, Maritimo, has announced it will unveil its first model powered by pod drive technology at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May next year.
“We will launch a C47 Sports Cabriolet with Volvo Penta IPS at the show,” said Maritimo Marketing Director Luke Durman.
Mr Durman said that the company is not considering pod drives for its 50-foot plus range.
“We believe that our approach to well balanced shaft drive boats over 50 feet provide great economy and ample accommodation space,” he said. “We will continue to offer the ZF joystick system on the larger boats as well as many of our new mid-range models.”
Mr Durman said the slow-speed manoeuvrability of pod systems clearly provides many owners in the mid-range market with an added sense of security.
“Our design team is also taking advantage of the added space offered amidships to provide more cabin space in these boats,” he said.
Mr Durman said the company continues to monitor the pod drive market and will apply the technology where it offers best market advantage.
Volvo Penta Oceania General Manager Auke Bruinsma said the company was delighted to be working with Maritimo on the development of new pod drive models.
“We believe Volvo Penta IPS and Maritimo’s renowned quality boat building will be an attractive combination for the market,” he said.
The C47 Sports Cabriolet is among a raft of new models Maritimo will launch in the 40-to-50 foot range over the next 12 months.
“The first of our new models is the 470 Offshore Convertible that will be launched in early February,” said Mr Durman. “This boat is equipped with 670hp Volvo Penta D11 turbo diesel engines and shaft drives.”
