Matt Hayden confirmed to attend the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show

Like all retirees when Matt Hayden decided to give up professional cricket he vowed to spend more time on the water indulging in one of his favourite pastimes, fishing.

Hayden, who is an ambassador for the National Marine Safety Committee’s summer campaign, which urges skippers to “keep their eye on the ball” will come true on that promise when he attends the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show at the RNA Showgrounds on March 20 – 22, 2009.

While at the show browsing the latest fishing equipment and boats, Hayden will take to the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show Fishing Stage between 11am & 12noon on Friday March 20, 2009 where he will draw on his own personal experiences to educate people on the importance of being aware when on the water.

“I myself have been in a slightly embarrassing situation where we flipped over on a bar. But aside from some hurt pride, it was absolute gold in terms of lessons learnt for me,” Hayden said.

“I want to also say to boaters, please be prepared and think twice about the conditions before you go out on the water. Understand that a lot of the work is done prior to actually getting on the water..

“I am really looking forward to attending the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show and sharing with individuals the importance of being safe on the water while also having a lot of fun.”

Jason Plant from the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show said it was a huge honour to have Hayden attend the show which will be co-located with the National 4×4 Show and Outdoors Expo.

“It is great to have an athlete of Matt’s [Hayden] stature attend the show and share his personal experiences with patrons.” Plant said.

“Matt [Hayden] has experienced first hand how easily things can get out of hand when on the water and he will be providing boaties with a range of tips on how they can stay safe on the water.  I’m sure he also has a few fishing yarns himself which he is also keen to share.”

Individuals who attend the Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show will also be able to attend the National 4×4 Show and Outdoors Expo for the low cost of $10 with concession holders $8.  Kids under 15 are free.
