MC38 China Cup IRC Victory

The MC38 HuaAn Sailing has won IRC Division A in the China Cup International Regatta in Shenzen. A brilliant result for the McConaghy One Design boat from Hong Kong.

HuaAn Sailing didn’t put a foot wrong in race 2 and 3 of the series, stealing the overall lead despite the trying conditions. Over 100 boats from 35 Nations competed in the event, now in its 7th year, the MC38 was up against some stiff competition under IRC competing against boats ranging from Beneteau First 50s, Archambalt 40s and the largest boat in the fleet Frank Pong’s custom 75 footer, they held their own in the IRC fleet finishing 4 points clear of second place.

“The IRC A class was a mix of boats optimised for the IRC rule ranging from the smallest boat (us) at 38 feet to Franks Pongs "Jelik" at 75 feet” Commented Peter Backe “Even though we were the smallest boat, we were the second highest rated boat in the fleet. It was great to see that although the MC38 is designed for the one design rule and built to be fast and extreme, it can also be competitive under the IRC rule”
