Ski racing’s 200hp Class is set for a resurgence, following Ski Racing Australia’s new ruling which has opened the category to Mercury’s OptiMax Pro XS and 4 Cylinder Verado outboards.

“The 200hp competition used to be really popular and I think those days are coming back thanks to this new rule change,” said Mercury Marine’s Director of Racing Guy Williamson.

“It makes the 200hp a great entry level class, one that families will really be able to enjoy.”

The OptiMax Pro XS and 4 Cylinder Verado outboards are affordable to buy and run, they really put the power in the water and deliver great performance.

“In particular, the ultra-reliable OptiMax Pro XS, being a direct-injected TwoStroke, is going to really let you enjoy some affordable racing,” Guy said.

“It’ll get you out of the hole and put you on the pace, don’t worry about that.”

More competitors will mean bigger, more family-orientated – and just plain better – times ahead for the 200hp Class.

“A lot of people get into ski racing and keep moving up from Class to Class, into tougher competition, which is fine,” Guy said.

“But there are plenty of people who just want to take part for some fun and excitement, and these Mercury outboards will let them do that for years and years.

“It’s a rule change that means exciting times lie ahead for the racers and spectators.”
