New boating facilities on Lake Illawarra improves access to the waterway

Lake Illawarra has new and improved boating and disabled access to the waterway.
   
Minister for Ports and Waterways Paul McLeay and Member for Shellharbour, Lylea McMahon opened the new jetty and pontoon in Reddall Reserve.
 
“This new gangway and pontoon means elderly or disabled people can enjoy the beautiful lake too,” Mr McLeay said.
 
“The project was partially funded by the NSW Government with a $40,000 grant through the Better Boating Program.”
 
Ms McMahon congratulated the Lake Illawarra Authority, who undertook the upgrade and provided the necessary additional funds to complete Reddall Reserve boat ramp upgrades.
 
“I am very pleased to officially open these new facilities for the benefit of local residents and visitors who enjoy recreational boating on Lake Illawarra.”
 
“The new facility will improve safety for boaters and their passengers,” Ms McMahon said.
 
“This is a very popular site and the upgraded facility caters for the increase in visitor numbers and supports businesses that rely on recreational use of the lake such as water ski shops and boat and fishing suppliers.
 
The NSW Government has provided more than $25 million in grants supporting more than 470 projects across NSW since 1998 – from dinghy storage racks and boat ramps to jetties and vessel sewage pump-out facilities.
 
“These grants are about planning for the future and making sure the community has safe access to facilities which help them get out and about on our waterways,” Ms McMcMahon said.  
 
NSW Maritime Better Boating grants have received a funding boost, with $5 million per annum dedicated over the next five years.
