New Maxum 2900 Sport Cruiser Sets a New Standard for Contemporary Attitude, Style and Versatility

Entertaining and cruising in style while on the water is about to get much more sophisticated, thanks to Maxum’s newest introduction—the 2900SE sport cruiser. The 2900’s sleek lines and fashionable interior are captivating, while the technology and innovation enhance the on-board experience.   “We designed the new 2900 sport cruiser with active lifestyles and a broad spectrum of activities in mind,” said Craig Dixon, director of marketing for US Marine. “All of the boat’s design elements and diverse features share a common purpose: helping boaters make the most out of their recreation time by providing them with leading versatility, performance and style.”

As a 2008 model year introduction, the 2900SE offers a glimpse of a variety of Maxum cruiser themes for the cruiser product line. The 2900SE expands Maxum’s stable of next-wave cruisers, which currently includes the 2500SE and 2700SE, and offers Maxum’s Active Seating cockpit design. Active Seating gives boaters the flexibility to move and reconfigure the cockpit seating, allowing them to do what they want, when they want, how they want.

On the 2900SE, the centerpiece of the system is a pair of 36-inch wide adjustable seats at the front of the cockpit. Each seat has eight inches of fore and aft travel and the ability to swivel to face guests onboard, making the seats equally functional for cruising, lounging or entertaining. The design is simple and clever, yet it has a profound effect on the usefulness of the cockpit.

For entertaining, both seats can be rotated 90 degrees from the forward position to face each other with an additional detent at 105 degrees for conversational seating. The port seat has an additional detent at 180 degrees, allowing it to face fully aft.

With seating that promotes interaction and 186 cubic feet of space, the cockpit is ideal for bringing guests along. Once aboard, it will be easy to keep them refreshed with the standard entertainment center. It features a solid-surface countertop and stainless steel sink basin. A recessed tub is ideally sized for a pack of 12oz beverages and drains directly overboard. However, many owners are likely to opt for an electric grille, which takes the place of the recessed tub. The entertainment center cabinet houses a standard 36 quart cooler, or can be replaced with an optional refrigerator. Finally, the rear cabinet doors provide easy access to battery management switches and a trash receptacle.

Moving aft, the 2900SE has a unique L-lounge transom seat with convertible back. As part of Maxum’s Active Seating design, the transom seat is adjustable to three positions, perfect for cruising, lounging or all-out sun worship. A truly multi-purpose design, the transom seat also provides generous concealed storage. Removable dividers keep items arranged neatly and close at hand. The compartment easily swallows four 8” by 21” fenders, a three gallon wash bucket, 54” hook, two 30 amp shore power cables or hoses.
One step further aft introduces you on a generously sized swim platform, enhanced by optional FlexiTeek. FlexiTeek is now a popular option, with its tremendous appearance, easy maintenance and long-lasting durability.

At foredeck, the Maxum 2900SE offers forward-thinking design. The unique angles built into the deck enhance both form and function. Opposing angled surfaces not only channel water for improved traction, but also offer a leveraged footing surface. The angled design also creates a cradle effect An optional Lewmar windlass is ideal for anchor management and is concealed by a gas-spring assisted hatch. External foot pedals enable easy use of the windlass while the hatch remains closed.

Moving below deck, Maxum continues a partnership with Sunbrella® Designer Interiors for all cabin fabrics. The 2900SE is the first Maxum boat to offer the new Sunbrella Java Café or Nautical themes, with rich, deep tones for an upscale cabin atmosphere. A stylish appearance and attention to detail is carried forward to the galley, with stainless steel hardware and multiple levels of solid surface countertops for food preparation and storage. An optional vintage décor package includes a solid surface sink cover and teak & holly flooring to add functionality and sophistication.
Across the galley, a simple and elegant dinette features a solid-cherry table. The table easily adjusts height to accept a convertible cushion from the dinette seating to create an extra berth. Clever non-slip material on the back of the cushion won’t mar the cherry table, preserving its attractive finish.

A dedicated forward berth offers full time sleeping accommodations. With the addition of an optional flat panel TV, the berth becomes not just the sleeping space of choice, but an ideal place to unwind on the water.
The mid-berth features a full double mattress. Reading lamps and ample head room make it a perfect place to sit up late at night with a great mystery book.

Of course, with Maxum’s longstanding dedication to performance, there’s no mystery about the 2900’s abilities on the water. Standard fuel-injected V6 engines provide a total of 440 horsepower, offering taught acceleration and impressive top speed. There are five optional engines offered, ranging up to twin multi-port injection V8 engines with 600 horsepower.

A Mercury SmartCraft onboard digital network provides constant information on the twin powerplants. Combination analog and digital gauges driven by the digital network provide advanced and easy-to-read feedback for total vessel intelligence, offering accurate, instantaneous information to the captain. Offering further precision control, buyers can opt for Mercury’s SmartCraft Digital Throttle and Shift (DTS) for a drive-by-wire experience. DTS offers throttle response and electronic shifting unmatched by any other propulsion management system available.

Maxum was chosen as one of a select group of quality, leading edge brands to integrate Axius technology into its product offerings, further solidifying Maxum’s market leadership position. The Maxum design team led the industry by developing a new dash system that allowed the ergonomic integration of the Axius joystick control system into the cruiser’s dash pod control center. The combination of Maxum’s Integrated Hull Design and Axius – a truly revolutionary technology, is the perfect match to provide enhanced performance, and a new level of handling for those customers who want simple and intuitive control that will allow them to easily maneuver larger boats in tight docking and handling situations. The Axius option will be initially offered on the 2900 with the first models available at the end of February 2008 and continuing.

The theme of power and control isn’t limited to the engine system: it’s also evident in the 2900SE sound system, courtesy of Maxum’s partnership with JBL. The standard stereo system includes six speakers, including two 6×9 speakers in the cockpit, and a component 200 watt amp. Plus, the stereo installation is certified by JBL, ensuring optimal system performance. And for those that want to shake things up a bit, the sound system can be further bolstered by an optional subwoofer at the captain’s feet.

While the performance and styling of the 2900SE will certainly turn heads, Maxum has also ensured the boat can leave behind no impression at all, with a new “Green Boat” option. The “Gray Water” option ensures that the removal of all waste water occurs at the marina pump out station, not into open water. This option ensures that the 2900SE will be a welcome addition to any body of water.

The Maxum 2900SE capitalizes on the success of Maxum’s existing successful new-wave cruisers, like the 2400 and 2600, while adding fresh elements, like the newest incarnation of the Active Seating™ system, twin engines and breakthrough foredeck design. It’s the latest evolution in Maxum’s commitment to further style, performance and versatility on the water.
