NSW Maritime has issued a warning to boat owners to take extra care on State waters following a series of boating incidents over the weekend.
Maritime spokesman Neil Patchett said there were a number of incidents today that highlighted the need for all boat owners and skippers to always be on guard.
Two lives were lost when their 18m ocean racer grounded on an island off Port Kembla during an overnight race from Sydney; four people were rescued this afternoon when their 4m runabout capsized off Cronulla and two people were recovered off Batemans Bay when their boat capsized.
“This week has seen some very unsettled weather and the ocean remains lumpy and difficult to navigate,” he said.
“Maritime would remind all skippers to take extra care at times of heightened risk and in particular, know your limits and the limits of your boat.
“If the conditions are rough, or you are a poor swimmer, wear a lifejacket.
