Malcolm’s first memories of growing up on Sydney Harbour always included being on the water. “Our house was on the water with a 2.5m sandstone wall into the river, we always dropped the sailboard or paddle board straight off it. Mum was fighting a constant war between homework and water sports”.

Malcolm doesn’t come from a sailing family. It was his two older brothers who sailed through school who introduced him to the sport. At age eight Malcolm began racing Manly Juniors along with his brothers, where many elite sailors cut their teeth.

His one dream was to win an Olympic Gold Medal. A dream he realised at Beijing 2008.

Malcolm and his Beijing skipper Nathan Wilmot have dominated the class for the last six years. They have medaled at six of the last eight world championships including three Gold and two Silver medals. In addition they have won 2006 ISAF World Championships. Malcolm has won every Grade-1 regatta in the 470 class in Europe and Australia.

Malcolm also took out the 420 World title in 2004 as a lead in to the Athens Olympics.

The bar has now been raised and Malcolm has set his sights on a new goal. “I have felt what it was like to win the ultimate prize in sport. I now look forward to being the first Australian sailor to win double gold”

Malcolm has now joined forces with fellow Australian Sailing Team skipper Mathew Belcher for his London Campaign. The pair will continue to be trained by the worlds number one coach Victor (Medal Maker) Kovalenko. Its early days yet but Mathew and Malcolm have sent a message to the world with winning the first ever round of Sailing World Cup and the Australian Nationals with a perfect score.

If they continue the way they have started, we might just see the Australian Flag being raised again in London.
