Ports and Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi has announced the first 70 of NSW Maritime’s new domestic leases for Sydney Harbour will be sent out this week, offering lessees better terms and a reduction in red tape.
 
NSW Maritime administers a total of 1,450 domestic waterfront leases, covering private jetties, mooring pens, swimming pools and reclamations, in Sydney Harbour and Botany Bay.
 
“NSW Maritime has reviewed aspects of its domestic leasing arrangements to simplify the leasing formula and streamline lease administration,” Mr Tripodi said.

“The changes reduce red tape, improve security of tenure and ensure a fair return to taxpayers for the leasing of public land.”

One hundred and twenty wetland precincts in Sydney Harbour and its tributaries have been reduced to six, smoothing out rental variations between neighbouring properties and assisting lessees with smaller properties.
 
The six precincts are:
 
• Eastern Suburbs (Southern shore from Harbour Bridge to Heads)  
• Balmain-Drummoyne (Southern shore from Harbour Bridge to Gladesville Bridge)  
• Parramatta River (both shores, west of Gladesville Bridge)  
• Harbour  North  West – Lane Cove River (Northern shore from Harbour Bridge to Gladesville Bridge)  
• Harbour North (Northern shore from Harbour Bridge to Middle Head), and
• Middle Harbour  &  North Harbour
 
A seventh precinct will cover NSW Maritime domestic leases in Botany Bay.

Mr Tripodi said the new initiative also offered lessees their choice of a three-year or 20-year lease.
