Relax during your holiday afloat with Riviera Aftermarket’s expert tips

The Christmas and festive holiday season is a time when many Riviera owners relax and unwind with family and friends on board their luxury cruisers, and it is also a timely reminder for people to make sure their vessels are maintained and prepared for their time on the water.

To ensure you have a happy and safe holiday afloat, the team at Riviera Aftermarket and Service have put together a list of top tips for owners to check themselves before heading out on the water with family.

General

• Make sure all drains and scuppers are clear of debris
• Check and replace wiper blades if necessary
• Check engine / genset / water maker spare parts / filters and tools and replace as necessary
• Check distress signals for expiry dates
• Check life rafts and PFD’s for expiry dates
• Check fire extinguishers and recharge / replace if necessary
• Check and replace first aid supplies
• Check all lighting fixtures including navigation lights and carry spare bulbs
• Get the boat checked by a diver or lift before a trip to ensure underwater gear is fully operational and no rope/fishing line is around your propeller shafts
• Check shaft seals both rope type or PSS seals

Engine room

• Check all engine oil / gear box oil levels
• Check fuel filters
• Check belts for tension and wear
• Check and clean sea strainers
• Check operation of all ball valves to ensure they open and close freely
• Check and recharge batteries and check water levels if applicable
• Check battery terminals for corrosion, clean and lubricate if necessary

Deck

• Check operation of winch and grease if necessary
• Check operation of davit and check the condition of the winch rope/wire
• Check all tie downs on your tender to ensure they’re in good condition and check pad eyes aren’t loose.
• Check lifting bridle and clips
• Check outboard, fuel levels/quality, check engine oil
• Check tender battery and charge as necessary
