The Rosehill Trailer Boat Show is in Sydney this weekend giving newcomers the chance to get involved in recreational boating.

Trevor Williams, NSW Maritime Regional Manager, Sydney Region, said entry was free and the event was aimed at families with its focus on boats under about 8 metres, smaller craft such as canoes and kayaks and fishing gear.

“Boating is a wonderful way of life for many people and smaller craft offer an accessible entry point for families who would like to become involved,” he said.

Mr Williams said NSW Maritime staff would be at show to provide boating safety information and advice.

“They will be conducting licence testing for those who have completed the Boating Safety Course. The boating licence will be issued upon completion of the necessary practical experience. The course will also be available for purchase on DVD.

“The NSW Maritime stand will have the latest safe boating information and publications, facilities for renewal of boating licences and registration and giveaways for the kids.”

The Boating Industry Association (BIA) has held the Trailer Boat Show at Rosehill Gardens for the past eight years and prior to that at Silverwater and Parramatta.

Domenic Genua, Marketing and Events Manager for the BIA said that since making use of the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre in 2002 exhibitor attendance had tripled.

Mr Genua said the show had become popular for bargain hunters too.

“Many of our members use Rosehill to clear excess stock and for that reason the show has provided some real opportunities for boat buyers,” he said.

The venue is: Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, James Ruse Drive, Rosehill. It is open from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday (6-7 March).
