Safe Boating Plans for Shoalhaven and Clyde Rivers

Safe Boating Plans for the Shoalhaven and Clyde Rivers have been released today by Ports and waterways Minister Joe Tripodi.

“The Shoalhaven Estuary Safe Boating Plan 2009-2013 and the Clyde Estuary Safe Boating Plan 2009-2010 were finalised after incorporating extensive public feedback,” Mr Tripodi said.

“The aim of these plans is to encourage a culture of safe boating on the Shoalhaven and Clyde Rivers.

“NSW Maritime sought input from the local community and boating groups in order to get a comprehensive understanding of the way the waterways are used.

“Both the Shoalhaven estuary and the Clyde River are magnificent natural public assets which should be accessible to all users – from commercial fishermen to recreational boaters, swimmers and kayakers.

“We saw a need to put together these plans to outline a safe boating culture for all users of these important South Coast waterways.

“The Safe Boating Plans aim to promote marine safety, minimise user conflicts and plan for future boating needs.”

The Plans cover issues including:
•    Vessel speed limits;
•    Sewage from vessels;
•    Mooring locations;
•    Seagrass protection;
•    Navigational markers; and
•    Maritime infrastructure such as wharves, jetties and boat ramps.
